A moment of music.

Ben Cooper is a professional composer of both Modern Classical album releases and music for media (films/TV/games etc.). Originally from a small town in the midlands of the UK, he graduated from his degree in Music Composition from the University of Hertfordshire around 10 years ago and has been working in the industry as a composer and producer ever since. He now lives in Birmingham, which is the UK’s second largest city and the industrial hub of the country, where he spends most of his time composing for short films and producing tracks for other artists. He has also released 5 albums over the last year and a half, all instrumental and often piano-lead works.

A statement from Ben:

"I originally wrote ‘Hope’ as a reaction to the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum (AKA ‘Brexit’). I felt crushed by the nation’s decision as, to me, it felt like a win for ignorance and separation, and a blow to togetherness. I’ve always believed in the power of humanity, when we work together, and in the power of working together to fix things that don’t work. The referendum also lit a fire under the longstanding tensions between races within the UK. I needed some hope, and I felt like others might need some hope to, so I composed ‘Hope’.

A couple of years ago I set myself a goal, a mission statement of sorts; to create accessible classical music that could speak to as wide a range of people as possible by drawing on my experience working in, and love for, as many musical genres as I could. You see, I didn’t start as a classical pianist, I started my musical journey as a Blues guitarist. Through my early teens I found myself pulled towards Rock and Prog Rock, before becoming increasingly interested in R&B, Funk, Rap, and Soul music. All the while, though, I had been exposed to classical music by my grandmother and my mother. By the end of my teenage years I had found myself more seriously dabbling in classical composition, including learning music theory and venturing to the University of Hertfordshire to study composition. It was around this time that I discovered the genre redefining works of composers such as Ludovico Einaudi, Yann Tiersen, and Michael Nyman. I became obsessed with, and spent 3 years studying, Minimalism. After working in Minimalism and Film Music for a number of years I found myself at the start of this paragraph, setting myself my goal of pulling together all of the above to create accessible classical music."
